The Premium Series is for the DIY person who wants comprehensive tools and capabilities to develop home plans, design interior rooms and landscaping options.
I've bought this software, and its subsequent "upgrades" over the years because I'd invested so much time into learning it that I was reluctant to switch to something else. I will learn a new program before I mess with this garbage again. I've designed hundreds of homes in several states.1. Placing plumbing fixtures - The software will drop tubs, toilets, showers and sinks on the outside of the house. It doesn't matter where you hover the mouse; the software is going to do the exact opposite of what you want it to do. For no apparent reason, the software will arbitrarily decide there's not enough room for a tub or shower, even though there is, and will delete the fixture.2. Cabinets - Forget it. I've resorted to using the details tab, drawing outlines of the cabinets with that. You can put time into telling the program what you want the cabinets to look like, but it does no good. When you place the cabinet, it's the same stupid island.3. Walls - I'm designing a set of townhouses with party walls between the units. The party walls are 12" thick, total. You can't designate those walls as 12" thick without ALL of the exterior walls switching from 4" to 12" thick when they intersect. What idiot designed the software to do that?4. When you go to print plans as PDFs, The outermost dimension lines are cut off. You have to trick the program by drawing lines with the detail tab on those dimension lines. Why does that work, but the program won't recognize the outermost dimension lines? Sorry bunch of amateur software designers, that's why.5. Please don't draw a house that has more than two outside and inside corners on a side. The dimension lines will stack on top of each other and make absolutely no sense at all.I had an old version of Punch that was great. However, it would not instal on my new computer. I purchased a new version which loaded OK on my new computer. I created a plan for our new home but ran into problems finishing the detail features. I contacted the support people and they were very helpful, but there were several details missing. I was told that the $400 version included those types of detail that my $100 didn't.The main details I had problems with were the ceilings and Gable ends. I also had problems with placing material on the walls, floors and exteriors. Also, the software was not as easy to use as the older (12 years) was.To be fair, the floor plans worked out good and that was my main reason for getting the program.I used it for a few months brainstorming home ideas, but it is buggy, puts concrete on the 2nd floor and will not go to wood, when you are doing some tasks it refreshes and you are stuck with what it did on the refresh. So you have to redo it, but it is not a loss just annoying. the 3d is really buggy new really does what you want it to.Extremely difficult to download. Had to email company for a write around to the registration, would not accept email. Then they had to send a link for it to load to my computer, then it wouldn't transfer files to folder. Finally after a week and a half of communications and links it opens. Haven't have time to really sit down with it but the little I did wasn't user friendly. Will taken some time to figure it out. I bought it for outside elevation and 3D can not figure out how to get those functions to work yet.I've purchased upgrades over the years of this software and I've always liked it. However, this time I purchased this latest version through amazon download. When I enter the registration code and email address, I immediately get an error message stating that my email address is invalid. I get this error message no matter what email address i use. So at this moment, the software is useless. So frustrating!Used other Punch! version some time ago, but not all that happy with this version. It is cumbersome, hard to draw accurate, and it "glitches" in middle of task/draw which messes things up. Drawing of curved stairs basically impossible (or I just don't get it?). Just using it for fun, but would not recommend for any serious use.Update. Now used it on and off for 7-8 month. It's junk!Really, really love this program. I've dabbled around with a few others programs that claim to be easy to work with, but they aren't. It's definitely worth the price, and the tutorial and online help/manual helps you with everything you might ask. I've worked with the predecessors of these programs (Broderbund Home Architect Deluxe) and it is simply an updated version.Much better than the older version of punch I had. Still struggles with roofs and limited ability to do exterior details.
